Jim continues to be off the vent as tolerated during the day. Yesterday he was for 6 hours. They have put a speaking valve on his trach that allows him to talk. It is nice to hear him speak - most of the time! (Just a little humor.) It requires more effort & work for him to talk, so I encourage him to only say what really needs to be said.
Pray for his coughing efforts. While his diaphgram is working well, the intercostal muscles are not & that causes a weak cough. Coughing adequately is imperative in his recovery now & in the future. We have been taught the "quad coug" or "cough assist", which entalis pushing hard on and up in his stomach area when he coughs. We can see this makes a difference, but it also aggrevates the GERD - Reflux - he has. They are giving him two meds for the reflux, but the assist cough stills sends acid up into his throat.
Jim's son Michael is here until tomorrow night. This makes Jim so happy! The other kids - Jim 2 & Joey - will be returning in the next two to three weeks, also.
My Mom is leaving next Sunday for Alabama, according to her. Please pray for a safe & as pain free journey as possible for her & my brother, Jimmy. Pray for me to have acceptance of this as it hurts my heart, even though I know it is best for both of us.
Please pray for Judy Knoblock as she travels to Ohio. Her Mom passed away & she is returning for the funeral & to spend time with her family. Also pray for Sharon Cook whose Father passed away. She will be travelling, to California. Both of these women have been faithful friends & supports for me. I love you both, dearly.
Today, remember:
Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, Nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him. Our Faith should not be in the wisdom of men but in the power of God. Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever & ever, Amen! (Corinthians & Ephesians)
How precious to God are the prayers of the saints - and to Jim & I also.

Hello Jim and Marilyn,
It is good to hear about the progress being made. Praise the Lord. As we read about your walk through this time of your life we carry some of the burden you feel. Our prayers are continous for both of you.

I pray for Jim and for you, Marilyn, frequently and throughout the day. I’m thankful for every bit of progress Jim is making, and my prayer is that he will be completely healed from head to toe. I know all of this is in God’s hands, but we are also told that we have not because we ask not. I am “asking.”
God bless you as you continue to face new challenges. God is on the throne.

It was good to see you guys the other day. You are in our thoughts and prayers. Today that Jim would gain more control over his breathing and ability to cough.
Say hello to Jim for us.
