Jim has been off the vent for over 36 hours! His sats are good, cough pretty good. He also had another swallow test today. The Therapist gave him some yogurt she had dyed blue to see if he could swallow or would he aspirate. He said it stuck in his throat, but he did not aspirate. She assured us this was common in surgery approached from the front of the neck & so high on the neck. With time she is sure as the swelling from the surgery subsides he will be able to swallow. He is now allowed one ice chip at a time.
Jim ran a low temp today - 100.3 & said he was chilled. Please pray this is not a setback, but just a normal variant. Also pray for the skin breakdowns on his bottom. Pray also we can get the collar he has worn since the accident removed. What an ordeal this icollar business s turning out to be.
My brother, Jim - Jimmy, to me - arrives Wednesday to help get Mom packed and they will leave Sunday. I plan to stay home Thursday to spend the day helping Mom & Jimmy & Monika will stay with Jim at Promise. This is hard for me even though I know it is for the best. Please pray for Mom & I as we make this transition.
Jim's youngest son, Michael was here over the weekend & he & his siblings will be returning soon. These visits do Jim a world of good. (me, too!)
Please pray for me. I seem to be grieving - over my husband, over Mom, and for myself, too. While I have full confidence in God's provision, our loving God created us as emotional beings. My emotions are in overdrive right now & I covet your prayers. How could I have any tears left!
I will be returning to work for a little bit each day next week. My boss, Dr T, put his finger right on my problem: I may come to work, but my heart is with Jim. It is so hard to leave him, knowing he can do nothing for himself. The hours are long & lonely for him. Dr. T is so understanding & supportive of Jim & me. Thanks be to God for a boss like Dr T.
Kaye, you know me so well! Your song card was perfect. Thank You. Sharon, I miss you. Even hearing Jim's voice as a wrong number was great! Clyde, I may be calling. Thanks for all the practical help & the spiritual support you & Kathy have been. I love you.
Well, I shouldn't have started all this. EVERYONE - thanks! Your support and your prayers have seen me thus far. "I thank my God upon every remembrance of each of you" who has reached out in any way to us. While this experience has & will change many things in my life, it is changing my heart. How great a God we serve!

Hello Marilyn and Jim,
You both are a blessing. As Pastor Derek and I left today he commented, “We go to encourage and we are the ones who are encouraged”. Thank you Monika for being there to support your family. Jim and Marilyn, continue to share with us as God speaks to you. You both hear as we cannot hear.
In Him,
