Jim's temp went over 101 so they have restarted two antibiotics - Vancomycin & a new one I have never heard of before. Because of previous reactions, he has to have Benadryl also which makes him sleepy. He slept much of the day.
The Speech Therapist came in yesterday & allowed Jim to have a small container of lemon Italian Ice. Boy, did he like that. About an hour & a half later he started coughing & coughed - with my assistance - for another hour & a half. I finally got Respiratory to help & then he had a mucous plug in his trach. That was a bit scary! The Pulmonary Doc came in & said this is a problem with trachs.
I suspected Jim had aspirated the Italian Ice, but when I suggested that, he got all huffy. I will make sure the Speech Therapist knows about the long coughing and suctioing session. Aspiration can be very subtle & this is what I fear happened.
Also, I found on his heel a spot about two inches in diameter that is the beginning of a pressure ulcer. With Jim being a diabetic & his sugars running so high, this is a problem. We are "floating" the heel, not allowing it to touch anything.
SO, today pray for: The fever, the heel, coughing & swallowing.

Please know we continue to pray and think of you every day. Your blog is such a blessing for us. You will never know how much you inspire all of us and constantly remind us what is important in this world. Thank you for taking the time each day to keep us informed.

Jim and Marilyn,
Our neighbor became a quadraplegic at age 35 due to a neck surgery with complications, he is now 70 and also battled cancer through his years. He walks with braces in the house and has use of his arms and fingers. His 3 children were 10 and under at his surgery and they even helped with the therapy, bending each joint so that it would help to stir the nerves to reconnect. Unfortunately the nerves reconnecting is very painful but we pray that your strength will be a blessing from God to do this.
His wife is most insistant that bending each joint even only slightly will help everyday be certain to bend Jim’s fingers at each joint and to bend as many joints even if only slightly everyday and more if possible if Jim can handle this.
We pray for you everyday and pray that the Power of the Blood of Jesus will cover you inside and out to heal you
as HE has healed before with a miracle. In Jesus’s name this we ask for both Jim and Marilyn.

Thursday the 19th it is stated Jim’s sugars are high.
I am diabetic and find that my teperature does rise with the increase of sugar levels.
Has anyone checked to be certain that the IV has a reduced volume of sugar? with his lack of regular movement the sugar will be difficult to burn off as with regular activity. Just some thought.
