Jim had a frightening incident yesterday. His trach became plugged & he could not breath - at all. The nurse tried suctioning to no avail. I was saying " pull the inner cannula, pull the inner cannula"! He finally did & it was completely stopped up. Jim's sats (saturation of oxygen) quickly came back to normal range, but the fright of the incident left him very tense & anxious for a while; I believe he had a panic or anxiety attack. He did not know what was happening, he just knew he was very tense & anxious. It took a while to get him calmed down; And it took a while for me to calm down, too. His kids arrived shortly & Michael gave him a shave. Jim told me he asked for the shave just then, knowing it would help him to calm his nerves. When this happens again, I will just pull the cannula myself. The doctor is perfectly agreeable with this, probably due to my years of working Pulmonary Medicine.
Later in the evening Josh & Monika came in & we had a sweet time together of farewell. They had planned to spend the night at Miles home, the house Jim was almost through with at the time of the accident. In order to have some more time with them, I asked to stay the night also. What a blessing! I was able to "see" Jim everywhere & Miles would point out things Jim had suggested that were just perfect! Miles & Tracey are perfect hosts and made us feel as though we were in our own home. I thank God for Miles love for Jim and all our families and his committment to visit Jim, read Scripture to him, pray with him & just be his brother in Christ.
I saw them off this morning. While it is hard, I know this is what God has for their life & they know this, too. I never want my own selfish desires to stand in the way of God's will for anyone, even my son & daughter -in-law. Please pray for their safety as they travel the next three days to Indiana & Kentucky.
Continue to pray for Jim's recovery. We still have a ways to go here. God is teaching us so much in this & He has never been more precious to me than now, as my constant Friend, my Comforter, my Companion, my Peace.
Isa 26:3 You will keep him in perfect peace , Whose mind is stayed on You, Because he trusts in You. NKJV
