I just returned from spending the afternoon with Jim. He was in the Cadillac Chair over three hours today. He got a shampoo & shave, and really liked being up so long. When I left he had oxygen on for the night and was ready for a long nap. We had a precious time of prayer together, thanking God for the progress he has made thus far & asking God to guide us through the next steps with His wisdom.
We had a bit of a disturbance yesterday. It seems when the Case Manager spoke to our Insurance Co. about transferring to Good Sam Rehab, the reply was "He only has 15 days of SNF". SNF stands for Skilled Nursing Facility, or a Nursing Home. Our Case Manager replied "What about Acute Rehab"? She should hear back on Monday. In the first place, we have 30 days per year of SNFs, not 15. And Acute Rehab is different from SNF. But, I caould not find anything specific in our benefits about Acute Rehab. It is a hospital setting, not outpatient. So. please pray about this. It would be devastating to us if we do not have Acute Rehab coverage.
I have contacted our auto insurance, but being a holiday, our adjuster was not in . We should have benefits available there. And then of course there is the other party's insurance. I know my attorney sent her a letter, but I am not aware of a reply as of yet, as he gave her 15 days to reply.
There seems to be some confusion about visitors. Jim can have visitors; however, he does tire easily & can get quite short of breath if he talks too much. One person at a time or a couple for a short visit is OK. He would really prefer to wait until he is at Good Sam & settled in there. He said to Garth today, maybe later in July or early August. The program there is very intense & they will be working him hard.
God has brought us through this so far & we know He will not forsake us - ever. What promises we have - "I will never leave you or forsake you" and "Nothing can separate us from the love of God..." How well we know this.
I want to share with you about Zach. Zach is the 6 year old son of the Physician Assistant, Marita, who works in our office & with Dr T. in surgery. They, Mike, Marita & Zach, have prayer before they have dinner. One night one of the parents prayed, said "Amen" and then Zach said "No! No! You forgot Jim, you forgot Jim!" This really touched Jim's heart when I shared this with him. Also, Marita was in Peru visiting her Mother who has been seriously ill off & on for many months with kidney problems. Marita & her Mom prayed daily together many times. Marita told her Mom about Jim & now there is someone in Peru who prays for him. How beautiful is that!
People tell me how strong they think Jim & I are. Let me tell you, it is only God's grace that gets us through. God provides for His own, what they need, when they need it. I would never have thought I could get through a tragedy such as this in the manner I have, & Jim is the same. But the God we love provides for us in all ways - Spiritually, Mentally, Emotionally, Physically, and all other ways, too. But he did not give us the strength until we needed it. How thankful we are!

one comment:
Jim and Marilyn,
I wish I could go to every person that knows about Jim’s accident and listen to how God has used your situation to bring honor and glory to himself!! I can’t count the number of conversations I’ve had with people who have been truly touched, encouraged, given hope etc. knowing that through this tragedy you have not given up on God or become angry with God, (not that you’ve never questioned or had challenging days) – but overall you continue to honor the Lord like 1 Chronicles 29:10-15 says,
“Yours, O Lord, is the greatness, the power, the glory, the victory, and the majesty. Everything in the heavens and on earth is yours, O Lord, and this is your kingdom. We adore you as the one who is over all things.
Riches and honor come from you alone, for you rule over everything. Power and might are in your hand, and it is at your discretion that people are made great and given strength.
“O our God, we thank you and praise your glorious name!
But who am I, and who are my people, that we could give anything to you? Everything we have has come from you, and we give you only what you have already given us!
We are here for only a moment, visitors and strangers in the land as our ancestors were before us. Our days on earth are like a shadow, gone so soon without a trace”.
People want the Jesus you have!! You are and will continue to be a testimony of God’s faithfulness every morning!!
Verses from 2 Samuel
“The waves of death surrounded me; the floods of destruction swept over me.
The grave wrapped its ropes around me; death itself stared me in the face.
But in my distress I cried out to the Lord; yes, I called to my God for help. He heard me from his sanctuary; my cry reached his ears.
He led me to a place of safety; he rescued me because he delights in me.
O Lord, you are my light; yes, Lord, you light up my darkness.
In your strength I can crush an army; with my God I can scale any wall.
As for God, his way is perfect. All the Lord’s promises prove true. He is a shield for all who look to him for protection.
For who is God except the Lord? Who but our God is a solid rock?
God is my strong fortress; he has made my way safe.
He makes me as surefooted as a deer, leading me safely along the mountain heights.
He prepares me for battle; he strengthens me to draw a bow of bronze.
You have given me the shield of your salvation; your help has made me great.
You have made a wide path for my feet to keep them from slipping.
We serve an awesome God!!
In His Hands,
April
