The first day in Rehab was really only half a day as we did not arrive until about 1PM. We met several people & doctors & got a beginning orientation to life in rehab. Jim will be working on another floor for three hours per day. The therapies are not back to back as that would be too tiring. In between PT, OT & Speech, there is recreational therapy. Jim can do several things, including use a computer. He is excited about being able to log into the blog himself & send out messages; He will use his mouth to do this. There are various other activities he can do as recreation, but it also is a therapy for he will be learning to use other functioning body parts instead of his hands.
I have decided not to update the blog every day, but every couple of days or so. I want to be able to share Jim's progress & that progress is going to be slow. Now the acute phase is past & Jim is much more stable medically. So, please check every other day or so for updates & prayer requests. But, please don't stop checking & PLEASE do not stop praying for us. As Jim is working hard to learn to use his body in a new way, I will be making decisions & plans to bring him home after rehab. I have a hard road ahead & I really need your prayers. As I know for now, pray for:
Physical strength for me; Adapting our home to accomodate Jim; Wise decisions as to what accomodations to make, what to sell, what to keep, which room is best, how to provide the care he needs as frugally as possible; Peace for both of us; Continued awareness of God's presence & work in our lives; Continued yielding to the Holy Spirit;
Jim asked me to say that one of the main things he is learning is how selfish he has been in his life & how God has been revealing that to him. He/ we have spent a lot of time praying together about this & other areas of our lives and repenting before Him and to each other our sins. I firmly believe we will come through this experience stronger in our Faith & stronger in our marriage.
1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
1 Thess 5:23-25 Blessing and Admonition Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 24 He who calls you is faithful , who also will do it. 25 Brethren, pray for us.

I had an emergency last week and was in Mayo Clinic Hospital ICU for 4 days. I thought of Jim as I was lying in my bed. I felt like a prisoner to my own body, only I knew that probably I would be able to get up and walk away at some point and I knew that he couldn’t. I prayed for him and continue to pray for both of you. God only knows why you have had to face this terrible crisis in your life. It is almost unfathomable to me that anyone could praise God in your circumstances. But He isn’t through with you yet, and He will be glorified. God will give you wisdom, Marilyn, as you make decisions. And He has promised to meet all of our other needs if we will only ask. God bless you both.

Hi you two, I have been out of touch with you for too long. Haven’t been to OZ since our last visit. Two weeks in WI with the family, then. Home now and happy to see you are in rehab. That will be fun and less boring. Think of all the new experiences awaiting you. My, my, a computer. Way cool! I will pray for the things you suggested. Just the thought of you going home, Jim, must thrill you. The transition is going to be smooth as it will be bathed in happiness. You will see.
Loving you both,
Betsy

Jim and Marilyn,
Praise be to God who is meeting your every need!!
Psalm 79:9 “Help us, O God of our salvation! Help us for the honor of your name. Oh, save us and forgive our sins for the sake of your name.”
From “Psalms Today” by Mark Martin
George Mueller says,”Be assured, if you walk with Him and look to Him and expect help from Him, He will never fail you. In the greatest difficulties, in the heaviest trials, in the deepest poverty and necessities, He has never failed me; but because I was enabled by His grace to trust Him He has always appeared for my help. I delight in speaking well of His name.”
Every need we have provides God with the opportunity to show His love and power to us!
I pray you see God’s faithfulness and are able to delight in speaking well of His name!

Jim and Marilyn,
I am so appreciative of you both sharing your story with us. You will never visually see the impact that it is having on the body, but it truly is. Thank you for ministering to us.
In Him,
Jim

Hi JIm and Marilyn,
We are continuing to pray for you regularly and people are anxious to know all that is going on. You two folks are very special to me and my family and we pray for you often.
I wanted you to know that you are very missed. Learning to cling to God and grow in peace with our personal desperation is impossible without God. He never wil let us go, and His grace is sufficent for everyday. (2Cor.12:9)
I remember what you said to me Jim: “This is for God’s glory. This (situattion) is special.” We will never know how special and glorious tell heaven but many have already been touched and many, many more will be. Blessings and grace my friends, God is still in control.
Love and Prayers,
Pastor Derek
