Saturday Aug 2 Coming Home
02 August 08 - 06:10
Yesterday, with no forewarning, our insurance company told the hospital they would no longer pay for Jim to be at Rehab. Can you even imagine this? The hospital was shocked & I was furious. It seems the previous Medical Director has had a stroke & the new acting (?) director, in California, said "No more." When I spoke with the Case Manager at the hospital I told her to ask them if they were supposed to put him out on the street. To me this is unconscionable ! What did they expect us to do? I explained to her we could not pay out of pocket for Jim to stay there and our home is not ready for him yet. We were still of the impression we had until the 14th of August, two more weeks. I am not for certain, but it seems the hospital is going to absorb the cost and he will come home Thursday. I am seriously considering contacting the AZ Republic or one of the News Stations about this.
I had already made arrangements to see some equipment - a bed, a lift, etc for Jim, which Miles & I did, so after learning of this I called the man back & he assures me the bed & lift will be ready by Wednesday. We also found a neat wheelchair that fully reclines that I can use as a bath guerney for now. We found air mattresses and a tray table I can use to feed Jim. Thankfully, all this will only cost me just under a thousand dollars. This is a good price for what we are getting. Isn't God good & look how He works!
While at the hospital with Jim, I received a call from a gentleman who was interested in my piano. He came out last evening & he is going to buy it! But the best part is, he is a Christian & feels God brought us together. Let me tell you a little about him: He is an attorney, trying now to build his practice. His wife just had an emergency C-section, 2 months prematurely. The baby is doing OK now, but his wife had serious complications & ended up having to have her whole colon removed. I felt drawn to this young man. His father was a Baptist Minister in Oklahoma & he had a funny story to tell of how his father made him learn to play the piano to save the church $5.00 a month. I wish they lived closer so I could get to know his family & perhaps help ease his wife's mind about her colostomy. And, their baby is at Good Sam Hospital, across the street from Jim at Rehab. Pray for this Mom & baby, the Greens.
The ramps will not be built yet, but the hospital gave me information of a temporary one I can buy that we can move from place to place. Ben, the man who is building the ramps said they will be done soon & he insists on paying for the temporary one. Also, Judy & Mike called a friend of mine who has been a quadriplegic for 33 years & he is allowing us to borrow his van to bring Jim home. This will save us a bundle.
SO - much to accomplish the next few days, but considering how God is working it all out and how He has guided & protected us from day 1, there is no need to worry. Everything will work out as it is supposed to, in His time & His way.
Jim & I have learned so much about our Lord through all this. I would not have happen what has happened to Jim to anyone, but the experience of seeing God at work, knowing His presence & His provision are worth everything to us. Our relationship is stronger than it has ever been; our Faith is stronger and our assurance is firm. Please don't think for one minute that I am some super Christian. As you can know from reading this blog, I have had & continue to have those times of discouragement, fear, uncertainty, doubt - you name it. But God has not failed us and continues to protect & guide us even in the presence of all these sins. He knows our hearts & knows we truly want to trust Him & depend on Him. It is our deep desire that someone somewhere has read this blog & been drawn closer to the living God and that He might be glorified through it.
Pray for: Jim to stay well; all to be accomplished as smoothly as possible; peace for me these next few days; that we might see Him at work; my fears about being able to care for Jim to be resolved; a caretaker to help me part time that we can afford.
Marilyn
